Mastering Life Through the Breath
In our present society we’ve become so accustom to high levels of stress in our lives that we think it’s normal. We rush through our day trying to get everything done, which we never do, and reach the end of it exhausted, frustrated and anxious, knowing it will start all over again tomorrow. We know there must be a different way to do this, and there is, you just need the right tools. One of these tools is the breath. Even though breathing is one of the most natural things to do most of us are doing it incorrectly. Eighty percent of us breathe at less than 30% of our capacity. Have you even noticed that when you are stressed you either hold your breath or your breath is very shallow? There is a correlation between the way you breathe and the way you live your life. When your breath is shallow, constricted and tense so is your life. When your breath is relaxed, deep, connected and flowing then your life is relaxed, deep, connected and flowing.
As babies we knew how to breathe. It was natural and effortless. As we grew up most of us learned to constrict our breath and continued this practice as adults. Learning to breathe correctly again takes a bit of practice but essentially we are re-learning what our body already knows how to do. Once we begin to breathe naturally we become aware of how nourishing the breath is for our body, mind, heart and spirit, and we realize that this is how we were meant to go through life. We feel connected again – to ourselves, to others, to everything.
